Curiosity
We aspire to be a kind and creative learning community where we support and challenge each other to be the best we can be.
Our School Vision Statement takes as its starting point the following model developed by the Church of England and the Church in Wales:
‘Recognising its historic foundation, the school will preserve and develop its religious character in accordance with the principles of the Church of England and in partnership with the Church at Parish and Diocesan level.’
The school vision also reflects the Church of England’s Vision for Education and supports the promotion of Christian values. Our vision is based around elements of 'The Good Samaritan'
"Love your neighbour as yourself" Luke 10:27
In our school we follow our values to help us to show compassion towards others and our world. When we demonstrate our values, we are helping our school to flourish and enabling our community to live “life in all its fullness” John 10:10
Values
Our School’s Christian Values are demonstrated throughout the school
*Compassion * Community* Courage* Curiosity*
We show compassion in all that we do and say.
“Love your neighbour as yourself” Luke 10:27
Bible Story – The Kind Stranger ‘The Good Samaritan’
‘My neighbour is anyone who needs help’. We should care for everyone no matter who they are.
We show community by respecting everyone and showing compassion towards other living things.
“Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?" Luke 15:4
Bible Story – 'The Lost Sheep'
"They are as important to me as anyone else." Jesus respected everyone.
We show courage when we have the strength to stand up for what we know and believe to be right.
“Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27
Bible Story – David the Giant Killer ‘David and Goliath’
‘But you are so little and he is so big!’ David, a boy, stood up against a bully.
We show curiosity in the world around us and are open to new ideas and possibilities.
"Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” Luke 2:15
Bible Story – The Advent Story
‘Let's go now to Bethlehem!’ The Shepherds were curious about the sight that they had seen.
Reflection and Prayer
Reflection is an important part of our school day. The children reflect on their behaviour, their learning and a range of current affairs throughout the day. At the end of each Collective Worship there is time for pupils and staff to reflect on the themes and values covered. There is also the opportunity to join in with a whole class reflection at lunchtime and the end of the day too.
There are reflection areas throughout the school, including classrooms and even outdoors. These can be used by children, staff or parents.
Each reflection area has clear links to the 'Jigsaw' PSHE unit being covered and also has items to encourage and prompt reflection and thought. This may include mirrors, candles, pebbles, marbles and fabric.

St Mary's Church, Portbury
We have close links with St Mary's Church, Portbury. It is situated directly opposite the school and the children visit it weekly for Celebration Service.
Value Champions
Value Champion certificates are awarded for children who have consistently shown a school value over the course of a term and have been noticed by members of our school community.
Children receive 'Bee-haviour bees' when they demonstrate the school values within the day.
Each term the school focuses on one of our Values:
- Term 1 - Compassion
- Term 2 - Community
- Term 3 - Courage
- Term 4 - Curiosity
